An end-of-the-year kind of set that really focuses on albums and tracks that were released right before the year’s end (thus mostly neglected from those end-of-the-year sets). This soft electronic stuff really goes well with the weather outside. Kinda chill. Mixed by DJ Wannabeats.

An addendum to the previous post. I stumbled upon this bad ass Zorn performance with the Electric Masada project. In the band: Marc Ribot, Cyro Baptista, Trevor Dunn, Jamie Saftn, and John Zorn. Ear opener:

1. press play to turn music on

2. start reading:

“I’ve always thought of composing as problem solving, and in that light, limitations are actually an advantage that can help frame the parameters of a given project into clearer focus. When there are no limitations set I invent them. One of the first steps in the compositional process is defining the borders of one’s inspirational vision – setting the rules. there’s a joy in craft that carries one through these moments. Stretching the smallest kernels of inspiration ecstasy as far as one can go. experimentation is of course part of the process, along with imagination and perspiration.” John Zorn. July 1996. NY

Not too many things give me the shivers as much as finding out that Mr. Waits is about to release a new album. That happened today. My shivers got seriously severe once I discovered that the title track was released for streaming on his website. You can only imagine what happened when I listened to the song. Bad As Me can be heard HERE.

On top of that, I got a kick out of watching Waits’ YouTube campaign, which is totally meta-musing. He grumbles about the total lack of privacy in the internet age while bluntly exploiting the media in promoting the album:

Tom Waits’ Bad As Me hits the stores October 25th.

There is a sliver of purism when the members of such an influential veteran band, and you can ask Kurt Cobain (… oh wait, you can’t), are sitting down with some cardboard and glue guns to assemble the new Endless Residency Live album cover. Personal, honest, and totally Melvins style.
